Fernandez, UN Haiti Stabilization Mission Chief Talk Recovery
Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez met Tuesday with special UN representative and Haiti Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) chief Edmond Mulet in the National Palace, where they discussed economic and social topics for Haiti’s recovery and development.
After the meeting, Mulet reiterated his gratitude for the Dominican Government and people’s solidarity in the wake of the Haitian tragedy.
Jobs, investment, tourism, agriculture, education, exports and the creation of opportunities for the Haitians to attract their own resources were discussed in the meeting, initiatives which the United Nations would reportedly support.
“What Haiti needs at the moment is the creation of jobs,” Mulet said, and revealed that 650,000 victims of last year’s quake still live in carps in deplorable conditions, a situation he affirms must be solved as quickly as possible.
